Terms and Conditions
By participating, you agree to these terms and conditions.
The Hackathon is organized by Vottun (“The Organizers”) and begins on Barcelona – The date of the hackathon has been postponed. Stay tuned for a new date.
Your participation in the hackathon is entirely voluntary, and if you are participating in the hackathon, you are adhering to these terms. If, as part of your voluntary participation, you meet the criteria listed below and are selected as a winner in the hackathon, you may receive certain amounts of cash and/or tokens (where permitted by law) (“prizes”) upon selection by the judging panel. Prizes are awarded at the sole discretion of the Sponsors.
1. Certain Definitions
“Organizers” or “Organization” refers to Vottun
“Sponsor” refers to _____, the sponsor of the Hackathon.
“Participant” means all individuals and/or and teams that submit an entry and participate in the Hackathon.
“Intellectual Property Rights” means patent rights (including patent applications and disclosures), copyrights, trademarks, trade secret rights, work, and any other tangible or intangible property rights recognized in any country or jurisdiction in the world.
“Participant Marks” means the trademarks, service marks, trade names and logos for your entity’s products and services.
“Participant Materials” means any materials or information provided by you (including your team members) to the Organization in connection with the Hackathon.
“Prize” means the eligible amount of cash or fiat and/or utility Tokens where lawful, which may be awarded to Participants who have been selected to participate in the Hackathon and have been chosen as a winner by the Judging Panel.
“Project Submission” means the materials and content that you submit (or desire to submit) to the Organization for review and/or consideration by the Hackathon Judging Panel under these Terms.
“Sponsor Materials” means all information and materials that may be provided to participants by the Organization in the course of the Hackathon and all Intellectual Property Rights thereto.
“Judging Panel” means the team of individuals who will select certain teams as prize winners for the Hackathon.
2. Eligibility; Hackathon Requirements
You may only participate in the Event if:
- You are over 18 years old or are the age of majority in the jurisdiction in which you reside at the time of entry in the Hackathon and have registered with the Organization;
- You are a resident of a jurisdiction where entry in the Hackathon is not prohibited by law;
- You, nor, if applicable, any third party entities that you represent (i) is listed or associated with any person or entity being listed on any of the US Department of Commerce’s Denied Persons or Entity List, the US Department of Treasury’s Specially Designated Nationals List, the EU Consolidated List of Persons, Groups and Entities Subject to EU Financial Sanctions or the Swiss SECO’s Overall List of Sanctioned Individuals, Entities and Organizations, (ii) is a person identified as a terrorist organization or any other relevant lists maintained by any governmental authority;
- Your participation in the Hackathon is not in violation of any national, state, or local law or regulation applicable to you;
3. Intellectual Property
The Organizers and the Sponsors do not claim ownership of any Project Submission. At all times during and after the Hackathon, Participants retain any intellectual property rights they may have that are contained in and to their Project Submission.
The protection of such intellectual property is the sole responsibility of the Participant. Participants should ensure that third parties do not have rights or claims on information or software programming language included in the Project Submission.
Participant represents and warrants that the Project Submission does not violate any agreement or obligation to any invention assignment, proprietary information, confidentiality, non-solicitation, noncompetition or similar agreement with any employer or other person.
Participant represents and warrants that the Project Submission is and will be Participant’s own original work and does not and will not infringe the intellectual property or proprietary rights of any third party, including, without limitation, any third party patents, copyrights or trademarks.
Participant hereby agrees not to instigate, support, maintain or authorize any action, claim or lawsuit against The Organizers or Sponsor, or any other person, on the grounds that any use of a Participant’s Project Submission, infringes any of Participant’s rights as creator of the Project Submission, including, without limitation, trademark rights, copyrights and moral rights or “droit moral.”
4. Privacy Policy and Personal Information
The personal information and materials submitted by you in connection with your application to join the Hackathon and what you provide to us in connection with your participation in the Hackathon will be used for the purposes described in these Terms and will otherwise be handled in accordance with the Organization’s Privacy Policy, which may include processing or use by third parties solely within the scope of the Terms of this Agreement, located at https://vottun.com/privacy-policy/, and you acknowledge and agree to such use.
5. Participation
You can participate either as part of a team or on an individual basis. Switching teams is not allowed. Sponsors are not responsible for, and will not assist in resolving, any disputes between team members. To participate, you must attend both days of the hackathon (Barcelona – 21st & 22nd September 2024).
You must make your own travel and accommodation arrangements and cover all associated costs and expenses. Each Participant must supply his/her own laptop and cables to participate.
A Team or an Individual Participant cannot submit more than one Project Submission, as long as the Projects have been completed within the Hackathon period. Incomplete Project Submission may be disqualified.
6. Participation guidelines
Project Submissions may NOT contain in its sole and absolute discretion, any content that:
- is sexually explicit, unnecessarily violent or derogatory of any ethnic, racial, gender, religious, professional or age group; profane or pornographic;
- promotes alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco (or the use of any of the foregoing) or a particular political agenda;
- defames, misrepresents or contains disparaging remarks about other people or companies;
- contains trademarks, logos, or trade dress, without express written consent of the rights holder(s) or a reasonably apparent lawful basis for your use(s);
- contains copyrighted materials owned by others (including photographs, sculptures, paintings, and other works of art or images published on or in websites, television, movies or other media) either without express written consent of the rights holder(s) or a reasonably apparent lawful basis for your use(s);
7. Requirements and Judging Panel of Project Submission
The Project Submission’s smart contracts must be deployed on Rootstock.
The judging panel consists of Vottun and impartial members.
Project presentations will start at 11 a.m. and 10 finalist will be selected to make their final pitch at 3:30 p.m. CET on 22th September 2024. Each team will have 3 minutes for their pitch and the juding panel will have 2 minutes for questions.
7.1 Rootstock Requirements
Participants are expected to come up with new and innovative ideas. Any idea that has been copied from somewhere will be disqualified. Project Submissions must be developed entirely during the Hackathon duration.
You may use open-source libraries and other freely available systems/services such as Google Maps, Facebook Connect, Twitter feeds, etc.
8. Prizes and Awards (values stated before taxes, if applicable)
The Participants whose Project Submissions are awarded the highest scores by the judges will receive a prize to be disclosed on the day of the event.
Sponsors will not replace any lost or stolen prizes.
Winners are solely responsible for any and all state, provincial and local taxes, if any, that apply to prizes.
If a selected winner cannot be contacted, is ineligible, fails to claim a prize and/or where applicable an affidavit of eligibility and publicity/liability release is not timely received, is incomplete or modified, the prize may be forfeited and an alternate winner will be selected from remaining valid, eligible Project Submission timely submitted.
9. Publicity
Except where prohibited, by participating in the Hackathon, Participant consents to the use of his/her name, photo and/or likeness, biographical information, entry and statements attributed to Participant (if true) for advertising and promotional purposes.
10. Indemnity
You agree to release, indemnify, defend and hold The Organizers, the Sponsor and their parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, directors, officers, employees including advertising and promotion agencies, and assigns, and any other organizations related to the Hackathon, harmless, from any and all claims, injuries, damages, expenses or losses to person or property and/or liabilities of any nature that in any way arise from participation in the Hackathon or acceptance or use of a prize or parts thereof, including without limitation (i) any condition caused by events beyond Sponsor’s control that may cause the Hackathon to be disrupted or corrupted; (ii) any claim than an Project Submission infringes third party intellectual property or proprietary rights; (iii) any disputes among team members, (iv) any injuries, losses, or damages (compensatory, direct, incidental, consequential or otherwise) of any kind arising in connection with or as a result of the prize, or acceptance, possession, or use of the prize, or from participation in the Hackathon; (v) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Hackathon; technical errors that may impair your ability to participate in the Hackathon; or (vi) errors in the administration of the Hackathon.
11. Termination
The term of these Terms commences from the Effective Date and continues until (i) the completion of Participant’s participation in the Hackathon or (ii) these Terms or Hackathon is terminated by The Organizers, whichever is earlier (the “Term”).
For example, if for any reason the Hackathon is not capable of running as planned due to unforeseen changes in business conditions, The Organizers’s inability to create websites and applications for management of or participation in the Hackathon, infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of The Organizers products and services or this Hackathon, The Organizers reserves the right at its sole discretion to amend these Terms or cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Hackathon and terminate these Terms.
The Organizers may also terminate these Terms for convenience upon ten (10) days’ written notice. Upon any termination, discontinuation or cancellation of the Hackathon or these Terms, all provisions of these Terms which by their nature should survive will survive, including, without limitation, ownership provisions, warranty disclaimers, limitations of liability, and dispute resolution provisions.
12. Not an Offer of Employment
Nothing in these Terms and Conditions is an offer or contract of employment of any kind with any Individual. Participant acknowledges that Participant’s Profile Information and Project Submission have been submitted voluntarily and not in confidence or in trust. Participant acknowledges that no confidential, fiduciary, agency or other relationship or implied-in-fact contract now exists between Participant and The Organizers or any of the Sponsors and that no such relationship is established by submission of any Content pursuant to these Terms and Conditions.
13. Winner’s List
The winners will be announced on 22th September at 5:30 pm. The Organizers will make the list of winners available online from its website in the following days after the hackathon.
DISCLAIMER
In no event will The Organizers or the sponsor be liable to you for any direct, special, incidental, exemplary, punitive or consequential damages (including loss of use, data, business or profits) arising out of or in connection with your participation in the hackathon, whether such liability arises from any claim based upon contract, warranty, tort (including negligence), strict liability or otherwise, and whether or not sponsor has been advised of the possibility of such loss or damage.
Crypto-asset investments are not fully regulated and may not be suitable for retail investors and the full amount invested may be lost, so each investor should keep themselves informed and understand the risks associated with each investment. The Organizers are not responsible for the opinions expressed by any participant, sponsor, attendee or contributor.
